I grew up in a real estate family.
My dad was an agent turned appraiser and my mom ran the front office for a large real estate company. On the weekends my parents would drive around looking at all of the amazing houses on the Main Line. While at the time, this felt more like a punishment than anything else, I realize now that it was the beginning of my training.
At the age of 10 I became a budding interior designer. I just had no idea!
This was a time before the internet (how did we even function) and long before HGTV. I helped my dad redo our living room and I caught the bug. It only took me 26 more years to fully realize I had to follow my true calling. Everything in my heart knew that interior design was something I needed to pursue but I didn’t know how to make sense of it.
Over the past 15 years, I took a few detours before ending up as a working designer. They were all detours I needed to take in order to learn how to (and how NOT to) run my design business. I spent several years in sales, I spent several years in candle making and then I spent some very important years learning all about the benefits of video. Without that experience, I don’t know that I would be where I am today with my Interior Design career. I say that because to launch my career I developed a video series called Shelf Help.
Shelf Help teaches viewers how to decorate their homes in fun and budget friendly ways. Having this series of videos allows me to show my potential clients that I am a magician when it comes to budgets. I can take almost nothing and turn it into something great. I strive to help my clients achieve dream home status, even on the tiniest of budgets!
As I took my business from onscreen to real life I began to see that changing the design of a room can truly change a family. It brings them together in new ways and helps them to see the potential and beauty in what they already have. That simple shift is transformative for the families that I work with and is my goal as a designer. I want to bring their family together through my work.
